Circa 1941: Our namesake The cost was $1.5 million and took 2 years to build. Opended on Thanksgiving Day 1912.

In 1941, soldiers of the 1st Cav Div. at Fort Bliss put 4 jeeps, experimental vehicles at the time, through 2 weeks of rugged day and night testing in TX, NM, and AZ.

Sept. 25, 1948: President Truman arrives in El Paso. 

A group of William Beaumont Army Medical Center patients, guests of the Young Jewish Adult League, attended a Bob Hope show in El Paso in April, 1949. 

1949: Chapel of the Fort Bliss replica, erected during the centennial celebration of El Paso military reservation, now has a bell. It was presented to Major Gen. John L. Homer, Bliss commander, Monday by Walter McMurry, El Paso, assistant general freight agent of the Texas and Pacific Railroad Co.
